Location: New Zealand
Description: A full net of Orange Roughy, about 30 tonnes, caught 1000 metres below the surface far off New Zealand's East coast. Almost 100% of the catch is this one species, as the orange roughy is targeted on its spawning grounds where it gathers in large numbers. Orange roughy is found worldwide in deep waters (500-1800 m) in temperate regions, Orange roughy are a long-lived, slow maturing species. They can live up to 150 years, but do not reach sexual maturity until they are 25-30 years old.
