Eye-flash squid
Image ID: 29636
Common Name: Eye-flash squid
Scientific Name: Abralia veranyi
Location: Atlantic Ocean
Description: A widely-distributed Atlantic squid, Abralia veranyi changes the color of its bioluminescence according to the temperature of the water. This squid lives in cold, deeper water during the day, but at night migrates up into warmer surface waters. The camouflaging counter-illumination therefore matches the spectrum of sunlight or moonlight penetrating to different depths.
