Description: An exotic firework? An alien spacecraft? No - this is a siphonophore, a colony of organisms related to jellyfish and corals. Up to 40cm long, this voracious predator captures and kills its prey using fine poisonous tentacles - retracted in this photo forming the orange mass at the base of the colony.
